Greetings from the Cubmaster

Be prepared!

Greetings from the Cubmaster

Hello Cub Scouts and Parents!  The year is off to a great start and we are busy having fun!  I know it’s hard to believe but November is already here and so we should take a few moments to reflect on things we are thankful for.  I am thankful for a wonderful family, a great job and the chance that I get to work with each of you as we help to guide our boys to become fine young men.  I’m thankful for the Men and Women serving our country in one of the many branches of the military.  They are the reason that we can continue to operate this organization and we owe them all a great debt of gratitude.  Next time you see a Soldier, Sailor, Marine or Airman tell them how much you appreciate what they are doing.

Speaking of the military, if you were unable to join us for the November Pack Campout at Knob Noster State Park, you missed out on some great fun.  We couldn’t have ordered better weather for November and to top it off, we had a wonderful tour of the Whitman Air Force Base.  We were provided the opportunity to see some A-10 aircraft up close and personal and ask some questions of some fine Airmen that keep them flying from the 442nd Maintenance Squadron.  We were also treated to a tour of a former Minuteman missile silo named “Oscar One” where we learned about the Cold War and then we traveled 50 feet below ground to the missile control room to feel first hand the small quarters that they had to survive in.

We have ended our annual fundraiser of selling Trails End Popcorn.  I would like to say how proud I am of each of you that sold Popcorn this year.  We were able to meet our sales goal again this year by selling over $29,000 in popcorn.  I would also like to extend my personal thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Pat Foster of Den 8.  This was Pat’s last year serving as Popcorn Kernel and he again did a super job.  Next time you see them tell them “Thank You” for doing the job so well.  You will need to get all of your money collected and turned back in to your Den Leader as soon as possible.

We are also in the process of conducting our re-charter to get all of the boys registered with BSA for the 2010 year.  Your Den Leader will be attending a mandatory meeting this month to learn what needs to be done.  They will be responsible for collecting your registration fee as well as your Pack dues.  Look for more information soon on this topic.

We have some great activities coming up over the next couple of months starting with the Pack Christmas Party.  I know the planning committee has been working hard to get things organized and I’m sure it will be a great time for everyone.  You never know, you might even see a “Jolly Ole Man” there too!  Your Den Leader also has information about our charitable contributions to Hillcrest Ministries here in Liberty.  It is a great opportunity to give back to the community and teach our boys what the Christmas season is all about.

Yours in Scouting,

Brent Cable, Assistant Cubmaster Pack 376
